program note:

Transverse Fractures (2009) is a short, virtuosic, high-energy duet for flute and piano. The piece is mostly composed of themes salvaged from a larger, longer chamber work entitled Partial Fractures, written for NotaRiotous Ensemble. I stripped down the instrumentation, threw out a bunch of complicated microtonal and spectral material, and was left with the fast-paced, stimulating material that inspired both pieces.
